The lessons of old

Tagged: , ,

I used to always say that I wished that I could press redo on life. Any part of life that I messed up and just start all over again and do it right from the beginning. I neglected that fact that I would be hitting the redo button over multiple times in life. Because I would fix everything up into the point that I messed up but anything further than that I wouldn’t know how to handle it. So I keep going to my scapegoat. Good old trusty big red redo button.

Someone wise told me this. That I’m selfish. If it was up to me I would have a perfect life right out the womb. No worries, sickens, lack thereof, wants or needs, misery. What would be the purpose for me to be alive? I would have everything but still have nothing. All your life is worth is material gain? Because that’s all that you’re seeking. It’s not to do any good but for selfish and foolish gain. It’s not like you getting a redo would have any substance to it. And one other thing. How would the heavenly Father get the glory out of your life? You’ll be like the rich boy in Matthew when the Messiah came to him and told him to give up his riches and follow the Messiah. The young boy couldn’t do it. His worldly possessions were of more importance to him than his soul. So be rich now but poor later. Live it up now but die later. Have your heaven now but go to hell later. It’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the gates of heaven.

All I could say was damn you ain’t have to do me like that. So this made me think. How many of us want a reset button on life? How many of us believe that we can fix our past? How many of us actually believe that if we were to get a opportunity to go back and redo everything thing over again that we would never make a mistake? How many of us truly believe that this would be all for the better?

You know it’s kind of sad because our past is like the devil. It just keeps on call us back. Many picks up the phone and answers thinking that something will change but nope it takes for a loop. And at the snap of the finger we are back to where we originally started. It’s sad because alot of us have this quiet philosophy that if I could just fix, solve this one problem then it will set me up in the future to have success.

Don’t go back. It’s a trick and a trap. You couldn’t successfully solve that problem then. So what makes you think that you will be able to solve it now? What do I mean by this? Well, for example if i could just get some answers. If I could just solve this of why my parents got a divorce? Then our marriage could have hope. Maybe it will work. You see the trick and trap is the continuous nagging reminder of something is out of place, broken, missing from your past. Now you’re up losing sleep, losing precious time in your present and future because your old flame has paid a visit. So you’re up all night reminising about how the good old days used to be instead of letting the devil know that it’s a reason why you’re called the past. It’s because that’s a time in my life that I used to enjoy. I moved on and left you back there for a reason. I’m not there anymore. Bye, we ain’t about to rekindle anything. But instead we fall pray and entertain the past. We flirt a little. Have a couple of drinks and before you know it. We’re in bed again with the past. Waking up with the horrible reminder of why you broke it off in the first place.

But you made a mistake. Trying to fix it became the new closure.

If you believe this, sorry to say but like me many of you have been deceived. Life wasn’t designed to go backwards but forwards. The choices that you have made or your life turned out a certain way that you didn’t expect that it would. You have to live with those consequences. If you want the present and future to not be a repeat of the things of old. Simply make better decisions. It’s the truth but hey we all gotta hear it at one point or another in our life. Hell I heard this very same thing and look at how I turned out.

I think I’m that I’m okay, right??????

Life is not a game console. You can’t press restart so you can redo a particular level of your life over again. Although, you can learn from your previous mistakes; gain the upper hand so you can avoid going down the same road from before. It’s better to continue forward and be able to say, oh I remember this and have the apporiate tools so you can handle the job. Than to go backwards and be more lost restarting than you were beginning.

I wrote this because I myself like many of you fall victim to this. We harp on the past so much that we forget that whatever happened back them was a time in our life that we will never be able to get back. My dad said it best, if you continue to dwell on the past then you won’t have a future. We don’t realize that the lessons of old that were not learned. The missed opportunities that you did not take full advantage of are not returning in the same form that they originally presented themselves to you. But new opportunities will emerge carrying the same sentiments of the ones of old. You won’t receive them. You won’t know how to handle your opportunities. You won’t know how to hanlde your life moving forward. Your opportunities are only there for a moment and then they’re gone to the next willing and able person.

Hold on. Let me repeat that one mo time. I feel like preaching today. Hahaa.

We don’t realize that the lessons of old that were not learned. The missed opportunities that you did not take full advantage of are not returning in the same form that they originally presented themselves to you. But new opportunities will emerge carrying the same sentiments of the ones of old. Because you are more invested in straightening out your past instead of working on your present and future. You won’t receive them. You won’t know how to handle your opportunities. You won’t know how to hanlde your life moving forward. Your opportunities are only there for a moment and then they’re gone to the next willing and able person.

But seriously.

So while you are beating yourself up because what once was ain’t happening again. You are stopping what’s to come. The reason why is because your mind, body and soul is more in tune with the past and refixing what could of, should of and would of have been. Therefore you are altering your future. Now we all have seen Avengers Endgame and they have cleared up the notion that whatever you do in the past will not affect your future. But I’m here to tell you that in real life it can and will affect your future.

Your past is the past. There’s no going back and no recorrecting that can be done. But many of us are so hurt and in total disbelief that what happened just really happened that we make the mistake of lingering longer than we should in a timeof our life that was meant to teach us a lesson.

What do I mean by this?

In church we used to sing a song and the lyrics are weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning. If I’m correct I believe that it’s also a Bible scripture. It’s probably in the book of Psalms. Y’all let me know if that’s in the Bible. Now let me answer a question with a question. How many of us are still weeping in the morning when we should be having joy? That’s how you alter your future. But also that’s how you miss the wonderful opportunities of what’s to come. Because you’re still dwelling on what you wanted life to be and because life didn’t go the way that you wanted it to go. You risk seeing the light at the end of the tunnel because you perfer to return back to darkness and create your own light.

Think about it?

PEACE!!!!!!!

  • There you go, writing stuff that connects with folks again. LOL It took me a llllllllllooooooonnnnnnnngggggggggggg time to figure out why I kept repeating the same cycles. It was because I naturally like to fix stuff. What I never realized was as I was trying to fix whatever the challenge was at the time. I was breaking myself. Once I had my AHA moment, this changed my life. Some things are not meant for me fix! Once I came to that realization it literally changed my life and I started moving forward. The creative side of me still struggles with this from time to time but once I recognize it. I check myself real quick!

  • Thank you, prefect timing. This post has helped myself and coworkers with huddles of thoughts about the past. Just to say a few sentences, giving Credit where it’s due; 1)”But instead we fall pray and entertain the past. We flirt a little. Have a couple of drinks and before you know it. We’re in bed again with the past. Waking up with the horrible reminder of why you broke it off in the first place”. After reading that selection, I’m at work laughing out loud, which I begin reading the whole post to my coworkers while saying damn this Writer, in a Respectful way. Thank you !
