I could remember as a young boy I would always hear these words,

“do as I say, not as I do.”

These words would confuse me because the person giving them was always an authority figure of some sort. How do you expect someone under you to respect and follow your directions when you yourself are always not living up to the words that you speak? You have to set a good example. You must practice what you preach. It’s not wise to always tell others what’s expected of them but they watch you undermine and do the opposite of what you tell them. Not only is it confusing but you are setting a example that it’s okay to have a good talk. Be able to say the right words and phrases. However, when it comes down to the action, simply put you don’t have to do it. You don’t have to live by it. What you say is more for others to be doing less for myself to held to the same standards that you expect form other people. Set a good example. You’re a leader not a follower.
